Fanny Elahi grew up in France, completed her bachelor’s degree at Columbia University, obtained her MD from Mount Sinai School of Medicine, and DPhil from Oxford University funded by the Medical Research Council. She underwent residency training in neurology at the University of California, Los Angeles, prior to a fellowship in neurodegenerative disorders at the Memory and Aging Center, UCSF. Her research is focused on development of novel biomarkers of immunovascular dysregulation related to cerebral small vessel disease, based on an overarching hypothesis that systemic dysregulation and innate immune activation in the setting of cellular senescence and tissue injury may underlie a wide range of neurodegenerative phenotypes.

Ultimately it is hoped this will translate to the clinical setting leading to improved diagnostic accuracy, identification of therapeutic targets and development of novel therapeutic interventions.  Fanny’s research has been supported by funding from the NIH as well as the American Academy of Neurology in partnership with the Allergan Foundation.
